In Honor of a Fearless Son: Comrade Explo Nani-Kofi
Ghana has lost a lion. A lifelong revolutionary, a dedicated Pan-Africanist, and an unwavering defender of the oppressed, Comrade Explo Nani-Kofi was taken from us—not by fate, but by a broken health system that continues to rob our people of life and dignity.
Explo's life was a testament to the struggle. From the frontlines of student activism to years in exile, and through the enduring work of the Kilombo Centre, he stood with the people. He was steadfast, uncompromising, and unbending in the face of injustice. He gave his entire being to the fight for a free, united, and empowered Africa.
Though he has joined the ancestors, his fire is not extinguished. It lives on in the movements he built, the minds he shaped, and the memories we hold.

My tribute to a very dear friend.
Truly saddened beyond sad to read this terrible news about my brother and friend Explo Nani Kofi and compelled to write a few words. Unbelievable. 🥲🥲🥲
From the streets of London where our paths first crossed, to the fiery demonstrations that tested our courage, privileged to have known this humble brother , to have walked alongside a man whose life was testament to selflessness, courage, and conviction. He was not merely a friend; he was a comrade — steadfast, principled, and unyielding.
He carried within him the living flame of Nkrumahism, illuminating our struggles with the wisdom of Socialism and the courage of those who dare to dream of freedom for Africa. Many of us who stand today, rooted in that tradition, owe our understanding and conviction to him. His words and his deeds were a living school, his life a lesson.
For years at his flat in Shepherds Bush, the great and the good of today went to pay homage.
We read, with awe, the story of his great escape from prison — a narrative that belongs not only to his personal journey but to the annals of our collective struggle. His sacrifices were not for glory but for the cause of justice, for the dignity of the African, and for the triumph of the people. In every movement, in every gathering, his voice rose not for himself but for all.
And now, like the noble figures of the past whose passing shook nations , his departure leaves a silence that resounds deeply within us. Yet, as the Romans once said of their fallen leaders: "He has not died, but entered the ranks of the immortal."
So lets not mourn as those who have lost hope. Let us lift our heads and recall that history is not written only in books but in the lives of those who dared to live for others. Comrade Explo lived so, and in that, his spirit cannot die. His example will march with us, his lessons will guide us, his courage will strengthen us.
Hail Comrade Explo Nani Kofi ! Hail the teacher! Hail the soldier of the Nkrumahist cause!
May his name live forever in the memory of all who struggle for freedom.

Explo never dies. You refused to do what so many in your generation chose — surrender. You stood firm. You fought hard. And in truth, you won. Rest in Power, Champ! 💪🏿
