Gender Equality

Women make up more than 50% of the population of Ghana. This has been so since 1960. However, women are under-represented at all levels of power and decision-making – in the executive, judiciary and parliament. Female MPs in Parliament have never been more than 15% of the total seats in Parliament. This exclusion goes to the root of the electoral and representation system anchored in the current constitution. We need a new system that guarantees women’s representation without requiring the benevolence of men. This can be done through Proportional Representation where the demographic representation of the genders will be reflected in the democratic process.

Efforts of Women Needs Recognition

Beyond decision-making, it is important to re-orient the society in such a way that the efforts of women are recognized and duly upheld while the people are judged and assessed based on the merit of their intellect and character. This is the way to build a sustainable society to stand the test of time.
