We mark this Worker’s Day with gratitude to all We mark this Worker’s Day with gratitude to all Workers - from carpenters to traders, from nurses to teachers, artisans, drivers, cleaners, factory workers, everyone who in their daily lives and daily struggles works to keep food on their tables and our struggling nation afloat.

As we mark this day we reflect on the moment we are living in - one of great difficulty. The state has been captured by a selfish political elite who are emptying our coffers, raiding our national resources and destroying our land while the people struggle to meet basic needs.

There is a way out. Workers of Ghana, we MUST organise for power. You build and sustain this nation. You must also lead it. Organise for accountability in governance, so that those who represent you represent our collective interest. Organise towards preservation of our land. Organise towards affordable healthcare, a respectable living wage, a reasonable cost of living.

The rotten NPP-NDC duopoly will not do it for you. They showed you with E-levy. They are showing you with galamsey. They have proven time and again that their loyalty is to themselves.

But this is OUR land. Our nation is ripe for reclamation of power.

So on this day when we honour your work, brothers and sisters, we ask you to remember your power. Join the movement to organise for Power, Workers of Ghana. Organise!

Happy #IWD2023. As we celebrate the great strides Happy #IWD2023. As we celebrate the great strides made towards emancipation of women and push towards true liberation for all Africans, we must not lose sight of the work that remains to be done. In Ghana an important step is a #NewConstitutionNOW in which #ProportionalRepresentation ensures women are fairly represented in governance.

As Sankara said, “The revolution and women's liberation go together. We do not talk of women's emancipation as an act of charity or out of a surge of human compassion. It is a basic necessity for the revolution to triumph. Women hold up the other half of the sky.”

PRESS RELEASE_7 March 2023 CONDEMNATION OF MILITA PRESS RELEASE_7 March 2023

CONDEMNATION OF MILITARY IMPUNITY AND LAWLESS ACTIONS IN ASHAIMAN

The Economic Fighters League condemns the lawlessness and impunity of actions taken by the Ghanaian military in Ashaiman today.

A failing nation is one in which the state creates socio-economic situations so dire that crime escalates to a level where mobile phones and laptops are worth more than a human life. That same failing state is one which, when confronted with the consequences of poor governance, decides to abuse its power, weaponising it against the people it is supposed to serve and protect.

We should not be surprised - we have for a while been witnessing the gradual resurgence of the militarisation of the state, and the rampant impunity with which state actors are able to operate. From the militarisation of Operation Calm Life patrols to the 2020 murder of Eric Ofotsu by soldiers in Ashaiman and the 2021 slaying of youth in the streets of Ejura who were protesting against the murder of Fighter Kaaka in Ejura, the state continues to weaponize its resources against the people instead of serving us. This behaviour must be condemned and resisted everywhere it is seen.

We have observed that the arbitrary deployment of armed military forces is reminiscent of the days of military rule and it raises several questions.

Who gave the order or clearance for all those troops to deploy to Ashaiman with those weapons and logistics?

Are we still under martial law or a state of emergency? Is this not the same way soldiers entered parliament?

We remind the members of the military currently terrorising the people of Ashaiman that the shameful murder of your brother-in-arms and your lack of faith in the ability of the justice system to hold his murderers to account is indicative of the state’s failure to serve you. We join you in calling for justice, but reject your choice to brutalise your brothers and sisters for what a few criminal elements enabled by a rotten system have done.

Namata Serumaga-Musisi

SOLIDARITY WITH UNIVERSITY OF GHANA STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

The Students Command of the Economic Fighters League stands with the Students of Commonwealth and Mensah Sarbah Halls, as well as the striking members of UTAG as they challenge the University of Ghana over their basic rights.

The Students Command commends the continued efforts of Students and Teachers to secure their rights, and condemns the unconstitutional wave of oppression being perpetrated against them by the university administration and Government of Ghana's representative on labor respectively. Student and Teacher rights must at all times be protected and defended.

An organized student front is best positioned to secure the right to quality free education and support the demand for decent wages and salaries worthy of the teaching professions for Teachers/Lecturers.

We encourage both the Students and UTAG bodies to stand firm in the face of all imposed unlawfulness, until their demands are adequately met.

Until we are all free.

STATEMENT: Wrong Move Akufo-Addo, Africans Must Ma STATEMENT: Wrong Move Akufo-Addo, Africans Must Manage Our Own Affairs!

In the past week Ghanaians and Africans at large have been inundated with soundbites from the US-Africa Summit, a shameful gathering of neo-colonial puppets to serve the interests of their imperial American master.

The Economic Fighters League strongly condemns President Akufo-Addo's open call to the United States of America to further deepen their ‘partnership’ with his government administration, a move that he claims will assist in stabilising the peace and security in Ghana and within the West African Subregion.

[...]

We must be clear:

- Any attempt to invite NATO or any of it's members and allies to meddle in the security situation in Africa is inimical to our political stability. The AU must as a matter of urgency assume their mandated responsibility to lead the peace process in resolving conflicts and security issues across Africa by building a United security front, building a United Defence High Command, and harmonizing our foreign policy to prevent over-dependence on foreign military aid to address such delicate matters of security and political stability.

- Akufo-Addo and his foreign ministry must desist from making inflammatory and politically incorrect statements against the sovereign nations of Burkina Faso and Russia; it is detrimental to the peace and security of West Africa and the world at large for Ghana or Africa to be taking sides in what is quickly becoming a global conflict with dire geopolitical consequences.

Africa must not be party to any Western or European/Asian geopolitical conflicts or proxy wars. As Nkrumah put it - we must face neither east nor west, but forward.

Africa must operate as a continent capable of managing her own affairs.

Africa Must Unite.

STATEMENT_November 29, 2022 KILLER BUDGET: STATEM STATEMENT_November 29, 2022

KILLER BUDGET: STATEMENT ON THE PROPOSED 2023 BUDGET AND ECONOMIC POLICY

The Economic Fighters League has critically studied what has been presented and finds that we are presented with the same old unsustainable and unworkable economic resuscitation policies. You will recall that in recent weeks we shared 12 of many possible policy options that would operate in service of the Ghana, pushing towards economic recovery Ghana while easing the strain on her People (see: https://bit.ly/3idCP7b). The proposed budget statement and economic policy presented last week not only falls far short of that need, but targets revenue mobilization without outlining clearcut measures to ensure transparency and without a purposeful policy for revenue organization with targeted objectives, which will surely lead to more explosive corruption at the expense of the People.

The governing administration has, as they did in their 2022 budget, summarily pointed to further economic hardships and oppression for the masses.
